Residents of Ibadan on Monday protested alleged plans by the Oyo State Government to acquire additional lands for the Ibadan Circular Road project.
The protesters, drawn from Ido, Lagelu, Ona Ara, Akinyele, Oluyole, and Egbeda areas, demanded that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration retain the original 150 metres approved by former Governor Rashidi Ladoja.
They converged at Iwo Road, blocking entry and exit routes, which caused major traffic disruption across the city.
Another group gathered at the Agodi Government Secretariat, displaying placards to express opposition to the proposed land extension.
Reports indicate that while Ladoja approved 150 metres, Makinde is allegedly seeking to expand the corridor for the road project.
