I Thought My Life Would Change, But Out of 12, Only My Visa Was Approved — And I Still Couldn't Go – Shaggi”

Broda Shaggi has shared a heartbreaking story about how he was selected for a cultural trip to Russia but couldn't go because he was the only one among 12 people who received a visa. He stated that he thought his life was about to change, but the opportunity collapsed.

Nigerian comedian and content creator Broda Shaggi has opened up about a deeply painful moment in his early career — one he believed would change his life forever but instead left him heartbroken. During a candid conversation on With Chude, Shaggi recounted how he was selected for a cultural exchange trip to Russia, only for the opportunity to fall apart at the very last moment.

According to him, he was part of a theatre troupe based in Abeokuta, and the group had been invited to perform internationally. Twelve members of the troupe submitted their visa applications, and Shaggi said he was confident that the journey would mark the beginning of a new chapter for him. The excitement was so overwhelming that he stopped attending school for two weeks, fully dedicating his time to rehearsals and preparation for the travel.

However, when the visas were released, only one was approved — his. The rest of the team was denied.

Shaggi described the moment as emotionally devastating. Although he had been granted permission to travel, he could not go alone because the troupe was meant to perform together. The entire trip was canceled, and the dream he had nurtured so eagerly slipped away in an instant.

He recalled feeling confused and defeated, believing he was on the brink of a breakthrough that never came. With the opportunity gone, he had no choice but to return to school. But going back was far from easy — after two weeks of absence, he had fallen behind on coursework and had to struggle to catch up.

Broda Shaggi described the experience as one of the most painful disappointments of his youth, but one that ultimately shaped his resilience and determination on the road to success.
