FCTA inspects Police station construction projects, vows completion

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has inspected the ongoing police station construction projects, pledging its commitment to timely completion.

Adamu Gwary, Director of FCT Department of Security Services, after conducting journalists round the project on Thursday, said 11 out of the 12 police stations across the six Area Councils are nearing completion.

He said the project was conceived following the minister’s town hall meeting with stakeholders in 2023. After approval by the FCT Executive Committee, construction began in September 2024. The initiative aims to bring security closer to residents and tackle rising kidnappings and other crimes.

The Director disclosed that each police station will have officers’ quarters, consisting of six two-bedroom flats, to accommodate personnel.

Gwary explained that the stations will serve as a moral booster for FCT residents, particularly in rural areas, which aligns with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s vision to restore confidence in the security system.

He said, “The new police stations in rural areas will undoubtedly boost residents’ morale and confidence. Aligning with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s vision of strengthening the security system.

“These facilities will bring security closer to the people. With personnel stationed nearby, response times will improve, and police can effectively handle situations.

“Currently, 11 out of the 12 police stations have reached over 90% structural completion, with one yet to commence. Fitting works are also progressing, with many stations having virtually completed this phase. Overall, the projects are over 90% complete” Gwary said.

Some of the police station construction sites visited include; Bako and Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council, Yaba in Abaji Area Council, Ushafa in Bwari Area Council, Saburi and Takushara in Abuja Municipal Area Council.

One of the contractors at Saburi site, Ahmed Yahaya pledged commitment to deliver the project within the time frame
