Former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, has publicly distanced herself and her husband, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, from any involvement in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at a recent event, Mrs. Jonathan said governance was an overwhelming responsibility that once endured should not be sought again.
In her words: “He has taken you there once; why do you want to go there again? I won’t go o.”
The former First Lady explained that leading Nigeria comes with immense pressure and challenges, warning against treating the presidency as a seat to be recycled. She emphasized that the experience of her husband’s time in office was enough for their family.
Mrs. Jonathan further urged Nigerians to pray for whoever occupies the office, stressing that the problems facing the nation were too heavy for one person to solve alone.
Her remarks come amid renewed speculation that former President Jonathan could make a political comeback in 2027, following the circulation of posters and endorsements from certain groups.
