Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to work towards a more peaceful and equitable country in 2026, declaring that banditry will be defeated in the new year and beyond. He made this appeal during a prayer and fasting service in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Akwa Ibom.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to set aside differences, embrace peace, and foster unity among families, states, and the nation, saying the country can only thrive in a peaceful atmosphere. “I want to wish all Nigerians a prosperous and peaceful new year,” he said.
Citing Jesus Christ’s birth, Akpabio said Nigerians will be redeemed from banditry and insurgency in 2026. He urged support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration in fighting insecurity, noting renewed international collaboration will defeat insurgency.
His wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, encouraged family members to support each other selflessly, while family head Chief Ekan Akpabio praised Senator Akpabio’s contributions and urged family members in politics to prioritize relatives’ welfare.
The annual Prayer and Fasting Service aimed to express gratitude and pray for Nigeria’s peace and unity.
