Gov Ododo to commission 80 upgraded Primary Healthcare Centres in Kogi

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, will on Friday commission 80 newly revitalized Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state, marking the first phase of the administration’s ongoing healthcare modernization project launched in April 2024.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah.

According to the statement, the commissioning will kick off at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Old Market, Lokoja, representing the beginning of a statewide initiative to upgrade primary healthcare facilities into modern, well-equipped centres capable of delivering efficient services to residents in all parts of Kogi.

During earlier inspection visits to some of the completed facilities, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare for every citizen, especially at the grassroots level.

He emphasized that the revitalization effort goes beyond physical renovation, saying it aims to “restore confidence in public health facilities through the provision of modern facilities, qualified personnel, and adequate drugs,” as part of the state’s broader agenda for affordable and effective health delivery.

Governor Ododo also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “visionary leadership in the health sector,” noting that the President’s policy direction has provided a supportive environment for states to strengthen their healthcare systems through renewed investments and partnerships.

He added that President Tinubu’s focus on primary healthcare and human capital development remains a major driving force behind Kogi State’s current reforms.

It will be recalled that in April 2024, the Governor launched the revitalization of over 200 PHCs across Kogi State, with 80 of them—located in Idah, Igalamela, Kabba, Lokoja, Mopamuro, Okene, Ogori-Magongo, Ijumu, Yagba East, Adavi, and other areas—now ready for commissioning in the first phase of the project.
