The Ondo State Police Commissioner, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate transfer of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the Enu-Owa Division. This follows the officer's poor handling of a recent case involving the social media personality, Adefolarin Ayomiposi, also known as Mandykiss.
The police force had to take action after a video appeared online showing the influencer filming and taking pictures of people held in police custody at the Enu-Owa Division. This incident caused widespread public concern, leading to a quick internal investigation by the police command.
Initial findings suggested that no police officers were with Mandykiss during the apparent arrest. Instead, she was reportedly helped by her online followers, who gave her the information needed to find the suspects—Mrs. Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter, Miss Akinwole Oyindamola—who were accused of cyberbullying.
After taking them into custody, she was seen filming a video inside her car as she drove the suspects to the police station. Once there, she handed them over to the police but then went on to photograph them inside the station and post the images on her social media. This is against standard police procedure and goes against the legal principle that someone is innocent until proven guilty.
CP Lawal stated that this series of events showed a clear failure of supervision and professional judgment by the Divisional Police Officer. He therefore ordered the officer's immediate redeployment, stressing that the police force will not put up with any behaviour that could damage the public's trust in the Nigerian police.
The Commissioner of Police further emphasised that filming or photographing suspects in custody is a breach of established ethical rules and is against police procedural instructions
