All Roads Lead to Oyo! Governor Makinde Approves Statewide December Carnival Experience

The wait is finally over as Governor Seyi Makinde has officially approved what promises to be the biggest end-of-year celebration ever staged in Oyo State tagged #VibingDecember, fondly dubbed #FaajiDecember.

Similar to what used to be #DirtyDecember in Lagos, #FaajiaDecember is Oyo’s cultural and entertainment extravaganza designed to keep the entire state buzzing from dawn to dusk all through December.

The approval, which followed a detailed presentation by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, at the State Executive Council meeting, sets the stage for a December filled with rhythm, colour, and commerce.

According to Dr. Olatubosun, #VibingDecember is not just about fun, it’s about fusing culture with commerce, giving residents and visitors alike an unforgettable festive experience while boosting local businesses across the state.

“We’re turning Oyo into a playground of music, arts, and culture,” he said, assuring that security agencies are already on top of plans to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the celebration.

The grand opening, expected to be flagged off by Governor Seyi Makinde in the first week of December, will kickstart a series of simultaneous events across all zones of the state from Ibadan to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibarapa, and Oke-Ogun.

The calendar of events reads like a festival dream:
• Legendary December Beer Village at designated centres
• Fantasyland Variety Shows
• Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival
• Oyo Durbar
• Amaland and Atewolara Festivals
• Hotel Vibes, Ojude UI, and Artistes’ Hangout sessions
Plus a chain of high-energy concerts and street parties.

In a statement signed by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, the state government described the initiative as a “celebration of Oyo’s diversity, unity, and boundless creative spirit,” assuring that this year’s festivities will “set a new benchmark for cultural tourism in Nigeria
